Biomaterials Research operates using a single-blind peer-review system, where the reviewers are aware of the names and affiliations of the authors but the reviewer reports provided to authors are anonymous.
The benefit of single-blind peer review is that it is the traditional model of peer review that many reviewers are comfortable with, and it facilitates a dispassionate critique of a manuscript.
All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and suitable manuscripts proceed to peer review, being assigned to an Associate Editor where appropriate. Comments are sought from at least two reviewers. We make every effort to reach an initial decision within six weeks of submission. Based on the reviews, the Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor rejects, accepts or requests revisions of the manuscript.
